Durban North CPF, emergency services on alert over warning for damaging winds

A Level 4 warning has been issued for KwaZulu-Natal over damaging winds.

THE Durban North Community Police Forum (CPF) said it is on standby to provide assistance following the recent South African Weather Service (SAWS) warning over damaging winds.

A Level 4 warning was issued for the province for damaging winds which are expected to continue into Wednesday morning (June 11).

Darryl Oliver, the public relations officer for the Durban North CPF, warned there could be possible disruptions to roads due to cross winds and fallen objects.

“The CPF, along with our security partners, SAPS and Metro police, are on standby to provide assistance where necessary. We are urging residents to monitor their local groups and traffic groups for updates,” he said.

Oliver also urged residents reporting any damage to include key details in the descriptions.

“When sharing any information, please supply the date and time as well as the area affected to prevent circulation of old outdated messages. Also report fallen trees or infrastructure damage to the eThekwini Municipality Disaster Management (031 361 0000) and your Ward councillor,” he said.

The eThekwini Municipality also urged residents to be cautious over the strong winds.

According to disaster management teams, there are areas within the province where wind speeds have been recorded at 110km/h.
