Man shot dead in Avoca, motive unknown

The man was declared dead at the scene.

A 33-year-old man was shot and killed on Avoca Road in Avoca yesterday (Thursday) morning.

According to Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell, their Emergency Dispatch Centre received reports of the shooting at around 08:15.

“Multiple armed response officers, supported by our Special Operations Team, were immediately dispatched to the scene. Netcare 911 was also activated and responded without delay,” said Powell.

Powell said Marshall Security teams were first to arrive and found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds.

Paramedics from a private ambulance service, assisted by Marshall’s Special Operations Team, tried to stabilise the man. However, he succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead on the scene.

Greenwood Park SAPS  have launched an investigation. The motive for the shooting is still unknown.

Marshall Security has pledged its continued support to law enforcement efforts.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time,” said Powell.
