Relief for ratepayers association as section of Kenville Road reopens
The section of road had collapsed on more than one occasion, affecting residents in the area.
THE Kenville and Sea Cow Lake Ratepayers and Residents Association has welcomed the reinstatement and reopening of a section of Kenville Road.
The section of road had collapsed on more than one occasion, and just weeks after a repair it again collapsed in October last year.
The road, which began collapsing in March 2022, had deteriorated to a point where at one stage both lanes of the residential road were impacted.

Residents and motorists were then forced to use the hard shoulder of the road, with only one vehicle being able to pass at a time.
In the repair and reinstatement of the road, the property bordering the collapsed section of the road also had to build its retaining wall, and the section between the failed roadway and the wall had to be backfilled and compacted to road level before the road could be rehabilitated.
Anil Beekrum, chairman of the ratepayers association, said he was pleased that the road had once again become usable.
“We are very pleased with how the repairs were carried out. This section of Kenville Road has been opened for a little more than a week and the situation has vastly improved with motorists being able to use both lanes. Our hope now is the eThekwini Municipality plays its part to paint on the road signs, reinstall the street lights, and potentially put in a walkway, making it safe for pedestrians.

“We also feel the road going towards the Kenville Road bridge also needs to be resurfaced. We are grateful to all parties who made this possible but there are definitely safety measures needed to ensure the road is safe for all. Residents have had to deal with various routes in and out of the area being affected so this is a huge relief,” he said.
