uMdloti paddler claims silver at ICF Sprint World Champs
It has been an incredible year for the Hamish Lovemore whose medal tally stands at four silvers won at international events.
UMDLOTI paddler Hamish Lovemore showed his class in Milan, Italy recently when he won a silver medal in the 5000m K1 event at the International Canoe Federation (ICF) Sprint World Championships.
It has been an incredible year for the talented paddler whose medal tally stands at four silvers won at international events.
In May this year he won silver in the men’s K1 1000m final at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup in Hungary. He then won two medals at the World Games in Chengdu, China in the K1 short distance (3.6km) and marathon (21km) events, before claiming his latest silver in Italy.
Lovemore narrowly lost out to Denmark’s Mads Pedersen in Italy in the final event of the five-day championships and it was the same opponent who pipped him to the line in China.
In both events at the World Games, Pedersen needed a blistering finish sprint to see off the challenge of Lovemore.
Lovemore now turns his attention to the ICF Canoe Marathon World Championships in Gyor, Hungary, which begins this week.
With one eye on the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 2028, Lovemore hopes to continue his impressive performances at world canoe events.
