New camera to help fight crime in Glen Hills
The second camera now monitors one of the main entries and exits in the area, the pedestrian steps leading down from Umhlanga Rocks Drive.
THE Glen An-Hills Neighbourhood Watch has welcomed the installation of its second AI camera in the area.
The camera on Elderberry Drive is monitored by Blue Security.
The project to install cameras began in 2023 when the watch began actively fundraising to help install the cameras.

Thanks to contributions from the community, the second camera now monitors one of the main entries and exits in the area, the pedestrian steps leading down from Umhlanga Rocks Drive.
Chairperson of the watch, Neil Olivier, explained the camera is the second of 16 they hope to install at strategic positions in the Glen Hills and Glen Anil areas as funding allows.
“This particular site is one of the major ingress and exit points and one of the big holes in our patrols. We are grateful to have Blue Security who have come on board to help monitor the camera. They’ve also upgraded cameras in the area, including our first camera we installed on Glen Anil Street. We fundraised and arranged the hardware for the site where the new camera is situated. This is the culmination of a long-term project we as a neighbourhood watch undertook and it has been fully funded by the community,” he said.
Chris Perold, a member of the Glen An-Hills Neighbourhood Watch’s executive committee, thanked the community for supporting the project.
“We feel this camera will act as a deterrent. We view this in a positive light because a few months ago we recorded an influx in trespassing incidents which have since fallen away. We also feel the AI capabilities of the camera, which essentially uses track and trace technology, will yield positive results. This camera was made possible by residents’ contributions, in fact it was solely funded by them,” he said.

The Watch added they hope to expand the installation of the AI camera system in years to come.
