Two arrested after Lothian Road robbery

Swift teamwork between Umgeni Park CPF, Marshall Security, and SAPS led to the arrest of two suspects after a woman was robbed.

TWO suspects were arrested on Monday afternoon (November 10) after a pedestrian was robbed of her handbag on Lothian Road.

The suspects, who fled the scene in a Toyota Corolla, were spotted in Effingham by a member of the Umgeni Park CPF, and the vehicle was stopped on Queen Nandi Drive.

The incident occurred at about 17:00, confirmed Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell.

“We received multiple calls for assistance after a pedestrian was robbed of her handbag containing valuables and cash on Lothian Road. The victim then provided a detailed description of the suspects and after being spotted in the Effingham area the vehicle was eventually intercepted on Queen Nandi Drive.

“With the assistance of Greenwood Park SAPS, and another private security company, a search of the vehicle was conducted, leading to the recovery of the victim’s handbag and other stolen items,” he said.

In recent years, several crimes mirroring this case of phone snatchings have been reported in the north Durban area.

In December last year, two sisters in Greenwood Park Machaela (16) and Tamia Bennett (13) were lucky to escape an armed robbery on Ardrossan Road when they were approached by a suspect who pulled out a weapon.
