Gear up for traffic-free ride on M4
The ride along the M4 Ruth First Highway is non-competitive and family-friendly, allowing participants to choose their own distance.
THE next Cycle Sunday event takes place on Sunday, February 8.
Once again cyclists can ride from the Moses Mabhida Stadium to Portland Drive, uMhlanga, with the M4 closed in both directions from 05:00 until 09:00.
The initiative, pioneered by Cycle Lab and Peschl Sports, is founded by local resident Shaun Peschl and is held in partnership with eThekwini Transport Authority (ETA) and Go!Durban.

Cyclists can join the event from any M4 on-ramp. There’s no fixed start or finish line.
The February ride marks the first of four Cycle Sunday events scheduled for the year.
“The ride is non-competitive and family-friendly, allowing participants to choose their own distance, supported by turnaround points, water stations, mechanical assistance and on-route activations,” explained Peschl.
“Each edition has shown us that the appetite for safe, open-road cycling in Durban is growing. Expanding to four events in 2026 is a direct response to that demand. Cycle Sunday is becoming something people plan for, not just stumble upon.”
Local cycling clubs have also played a key role in the success of Cycle Sunday.
The entry fee is R50 for participating cyclists and entries are available via Racepass or www.cyclesunday.co.za.
