One dead in uMhlanga crash, two injured

One person died while two others were seriously injured in the crash that occurred in uMhlanga this morning.

ONE person has died and two others were seriously injured following a single-vehicle crash in uMhlanga during the early hours of Friday morning (May 29).

The incident occurred at the intersection of Umhlanga Rocks Drive and Fernlea Crescent.

According to KZN VIP Emergency Medical Services, paramedics and other emergency responders arrived to find a severely damaged vehicle with multiple injured occupants trapped inside.

“The driver sustained critical injuries and was extensively trapped in the wreckage when our teams arrived on scene,” said a KZN VIP spokesperson.

“Advanced Life Support paramedics initiated emergency interventions immediately while additional rescue resources were called in to assist with the extrication.”

Firefighters and medics worked for an extended period to free the driver from the vehicle before the patient was transported to hospital in a critical condition.

Despite efforts by emergency personnel, the driver later succumbed to his injuries.

The two remaining occupants sustained serious injuries and were stabilised on scene before being transported to hospital for further medical treatment.

The cause of the crash has not yet been established and is under investigation by the relevant authorities.
