Suspect arrested in uMhlanga after alleged hit-and-run attempt

A suspect wanted in connection with an alleged attempted murder in Umdloti was arrested in Umhlanga on Monday morning.

A suspect wanted in connection with an alleged attempted murder in Umdloti was arrested in Umhlanga on Monday morning (July 20).

Marshall Security received information at about 09:00 that a woman and her child had allegedly been targeted by a white Chevrolet Spark while walking along North Beach Road in Umdloti.

According to the information received, the vehicle was allegedly driven directly towards the pair in an apparent attempt to run them over.

The woman contacted Marshall Security before opening an attempted murder case with Durban North SAPS.

Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell said officers were later alerted that the suspect vehicle had been spotted on Lagoon Drive in Umhlanga.

“Armed Response Officers were immediately dispatched to the area, where they located the vehicle and apprehended the suspect,” said Powell.

Durban North SAPS officers attended the scene and transported the suspect to the police station for further investigation.

The Chevrolet Spark was also impounded.

The suspect is expected to face charges relating to the incident.
