TWO learners from local schools have been selected for the SA U16 water polo team competing at the World Aquatics Women’s U16 water polo championships in Croatia.

London Remley from Reddam House Umhlanga and Mikayla Morrison from Danville Park Girls’ High School are in Zagreb where the competition is taking place.

Speaking on her recent SA selection for the the world champs, Mikayla said she was excited about the challenge.

“It is amazing feeling. I have had to put in a lot of effort to make the national team but I’m so proud. I made the SA U15 water polo team last year where we played Zimbabwe away. I know this is going to be much tougher because we are facing more countries including Russia and Italy. It is a bit nerve-racking but I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead. Win or lose we want to give it all with our efforts and show as a team we can play well,” she said.

The feeling was similar for London. The moment she learned of her selection was one she will never forget.

“At first, I was surprised and I genuinely could not believe it, but definitely a lot of excitement. It is definitely an honour to represent my country.”
