Gateway jewellery store robbers plead guilty
The suspects were given varying sentences for the daring robbery which also saw a shoot-out ensue as they made their getaway.
FOUR of the five accused arrested in connection with the robbery of a jewellery store at Gateway Theatre of Shopping in April have pleaded guilty.
On Tuesday (July 28) Khetha Ngcobo, Nkululeko Mbatha, Vukani Dlamini and Anele Radebe pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated robbery and two counts of attempted murder at the Durban Regional Court.
Ngcobo and Mbatha were sentenced to 26 years in prison while Radebe was sentenced to 25 years and Dlamini sentenced to 20 years for the robbery at Premji’s Jewellers store on April 12.

While police recovered some of the stolen jewellery estimated to be valued at R3m, the weapons used in the commission of the crime have yet to be recovered.
Two tactical officers from a private security company were also shot and injured in a shoot-out with the accused during their getaway attempt.
In court, state prosecutor Surekha Marimuthu presented the victim impact statements which revealed that one of the officers shot, Brian Khuzwayo, has been paralysed from the neck down.
The second officer shot and injured is still undergoing rehabilitation for his injuries.
A fifth accused, Sfundo Mthethwa, who did not plead with his co-accused, is expected to make his next court appearance on August 21.
