Kloof Civic Hall Market
The popular Kloof Civic Hall Market returns on Saturday, August 29, after being on standby for several months. The much-loved Highway pop-up market promises a day of shopping, entertainment and community spirit, with familiar stalls returning alongside a selection of new vendors. Visitors can browse the market while enjoying a retro DJ and live music from Maria. There will be convenient onsite parking, making it an easy family outing. North Durban Lions Blood Donation Drive
The North Durban Lions Club is calling on residents to roll up their sleeves and help save lives at a Blood Donation Drive and Awareness Day on Saturday, August 29. The initiative, held in partnership with the SA National Blood Service (SANBS), will take place from 09:00 to 14:00 at Pick n Pay Hypermarket by the Sea. The day will offer more than an opportunity to donate blood, with free blood sugar and blood pressure testing also available. Andreas Mathios will serve as MC, while Melvin the Mascot will make a special appearance, adding to the family-friendly atmosphere. The event aims to combine community participation with greater awareness of the importance of blood donation and personal health.
KZN Dance Festival for Women
The Playhouse Theatre will host the KZN Dance Festival for Women on Saturday, August 29, at 15:00. This year the free, one-day festival, dubbed the Rehab Women’s Dance Fest, brings together five KZN dance groups for a carefully curated programme exploring profound human emotions and experiences through dance. The combined narrative of the performances examines the complexity and challenges of creating an authentic identity, while finding hope and sisterhood amid stories of gender-based violence, human trafficking and abuse. Despite the difficult themes, the overall message is intended to be thoughtful, uplifting and life-affirming. Admission is free.
Vintage, Vogue & Velocity
Vintage cars, classic motorcycles, fashion and live music will come together at Camp Orchards in Hillcrest on Sunday, August 30, from 10:00 to 15:00, for Vintage, Vogue & Velocity. Hosted by Camp Orchards and presented by VVV in association with MUA, the event celebrates the style and culture of the 1920s through to the 1980s. Music will be a major feature, with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra performing selections from across the decades, while Durban jazz group BeatRoute provides live jazz entertainment. Food and refreshments will be available throughout the day, and Camp Orchards will also offer themed picnic baskets for purchase. Tickets cost R150 per person, while pensioners pay R100 and children under 12 enter free. Bookings are through Quicket.
