LOCAL resident Gillian Rall has urged the community to come out in their numbers and support the Emergency Services Awareness Day on Saturday, September 26 at Crusaders Sports Club.

The event, which begins at 09:00 and ends at 14:00, will see displays from various emergency services departments.

The Law Enforcement Foundation, who are hosting the event, hope the day will also raise awareness of the often under-appreciated and often unrecognised emergency services personnel while providing an entertaining and educational experience for the whole family.

The show was last held in 2024.

“This is an awesome family day out, where everyone can come and enjoy the fresh air, meet their heroes that save lives on a daily basis, watch mock demos, see the helicopters in action and all the equipment used as well as yummy food. While we would love to host the event every year, sometimes between helicopter hours, services and the field being available, it doesn’t always work out that way.

“I would say that without the community supporting an event like this, showing our heroes what it all means to them, it wouldn’t always be the success it is; the highlight is always the choppers but on a day like this we are one team, working together for the community,” she said.

Rall added the funds raised from these events are put into a fund.

“When we have an AGM, we decide what needs attention first. In the past we have helped with extra diving equipment for Metro SAR, and helped raise funds for SAPS SAR to purchase a second boat and for ANPR cameras in the Durban North area,” she said.
