Gear up for Durban’s ultimate geek convention
The Durban-based geek convention covers everything from games to cosplay and all things pop culture and returns for a second year in a row.
FOR a second year running Durban’s premier geek culture convention, ICON, makes a return.
The event takes place on Saturday, October 3 (09:00 until 17:00) and Sunday, October 4 (09:00 until 16:00) at Westville Girls’ High School.
Amy Barnard, a Durban North resident and a member of the organising committee for the event, said the weekend will be packed with tabletop gaming, creativity, roleplaying and more.

“With over 50 vendors from around the country, there is sure to be something for the whole family. ICON Durban is KZN’s premier geek culture convention, bringing together fans and creators across multiple platforms and genres including tabletop gaming, cosplay, comics anime, pop culture and all things geek,” she said.
Cosplay is welcome like last year and Barnard said the event offers something for everyone.
“We have Dungeons & Dragons and other role-playing games, a board game library with over 100 games, miniature painting, craft workshops and escape rooms with VR headsets to name a few,” she said.
Tickets will be on sale at the door and are R100 a day or R150 for a weekend.
