DURBAN always delivers when it comes to shows, international cricket and fundraising walks. Get out and enjoy some of the events listed below for this weekend.

Proteas battle Aussies in Durbs (Friday, October 9 – Tuesday, October 13)

HOLLYWOODBETS Kingsmead Stadium will host the first Dafabet Test starting on Friday, October 9.

The last time South Africa played the visitors from Down Under, they won the ICC World Test Championship Final at Lord’s in London by five wickets in 2025.

Three Hollywoodbets Dolphins players are among the 18-man squad – Marques Ackerman, Anrich Nortje and Keshav Maharaj.

The first Test starts on Friday, October 9 and runs until Tuesday, October 13.

The first day begins at 09:30 and tickets are available through Ticketpro.

Proteas batsman Ryan Rickleton and Proteas captain Temba Bavuma at a fan signing at Kingsmead on Heritage Day.

Celebration of voices (Saturday, October 10)

THE Glenwood Presbyterian Church will hold its musical concert on Saturday, October 10, at 14:30.

“A celebration of community through music. Different voices, one song is our concept,” said organiser and choir mistress Heather Dix. “Two Choirs as well as soloists will be entertaining us all.”

Students from the Opera School at UKZN, known as OSCA, will perform solos, duets and ensembles.

Join parkrun and learn about Penguins (Saturday, October 10)

Join the Durban Point Penguin parkrun on Saturday, October 10 to celebrate African Penguin Awareness Day at 08:00 (Marine Surf Lifesaving Club).

The day is about celebrating and raising awareness for these charismatic seabirds that are found only in Southern Africa and are now Critically Endangered.

Dress in black and white or go all out and come as a penguin.

Members of the SA Association for Marine Biological Research from uShaka Sea World will be joining.

The event is free but you need to register through the website.

Tribute to the Beatles (Saturday, October 10 & Sunday, October 11)

JOIN ‘Barry Thomson & The Reals’ in Get Back 3 as they pay an authentic tribute to Liverpool’s most famous pop group of all time, The Beatles.

Featuring front man Barry Thomson (guitar/vocals), Dawn Selby (keyboards/vocals), Mali Sewell (drums/vocals), Robz Millar (bass guitar/vocals) and guest Colin Peddie (guitar/vocals), the band will perform songs by the Fab Four.

Tickets cost R220 (per person), R200 for pensioners and R180 for children U13.

The show takes place at the Rhumbelow Theatre (42 Cunningham Road, Durban) and it starts at 19:30 on Saturday, October 10 and at 14:00 on Sunday, October 11.

All seats are allocated by the theatre management and tables at the theatre seat eight.

The venue opens 90 minutes before the show and the venue is wheelchair-friendly.

Walk for children’s charity (Sunday, October 11)

THE annual Durban #HatsOn4CPC Fun Walk is inviting families and Durbanites to take to the beachfront in support of children living with life-threatening and life-limiting illnesses.

The 5km family-friendly event raises awareness on the importance of children’s palliative care.

Participants are encouraged to wear colourful headgear with prizes for the best hats.

Tickets cost R100 and R50 for children (ages 4-12).

The funds raised will go towards NPO Patch SA and the Umduduzi Hospice Care for Children.

The event is designed for all ages. Babies in strollers, young children and even well-behaved pets on a leash are welcome to take part.

The walk starts at 08:00 at the Amphitheatre, North Beach Promenade, opposite the Southern Sun Elangeni and Maharani Hotel, Durban.

Orchestra hits the right notes (Sunday, October 11)

THE KZN Youth Orchestra will present their year end Finale concert at Northlands Bowling Club (50 Margaret Maytom Avenue, Durban North) in collaboration with the Rhumbelow on October 11.

The one-hour concert starts at 14:00 and includes some classical favourites, movie music and several South African hits as well.

The orchestra have performed at least 14 concerts so far this year with highlights being a tour to the Midlands in April.

Tickets cost R100 and participants are encouraged to bring food picnic baskets or you can buy at the venue
