SASSA adjusts payment dates ahead of elections
Social grant payments will begin on October 30 and should be completed before the November 4 elections.
THE SA Social Security Agency (SASSA) has revised payment dates for the November social grant payment cycle in light of the upcoming Local Government Elections.
The elections will be held on Wednesday, November 4, throughout SA with the results to be announced later that week. Taking into account the event’s busy period, SASSA spokesperson Dr Paseka Letsatsi said the agency opted to move social grant payments to an earlier date, starting on October 30.
Letsatsi said the revised schedule was agreed upon following extensive consultations between SASSA and various stakeholders. “Following these engagements, National Treasury approved the revised payment dates, paving the way for the implementation of the new schedule,” said Letsatsi.

In terms of the revised arrangements, social grants will be paid as follows:
• Older Persons Grant: Friday, 30 October 2026
• Disability Grant: Monday, 02 November 2026
• Children’s Grants: Tuesday, 03 November 2026
“This is to ensure that social grant payments continue to be administered efficiently, securely and with minimal disruption during the Local Government Elections period,” said Letsatsi. “The Agency urges beneficiaries not to rush to SASSA offices unnecessarily, as grant payments will be processed according to the announced schedule. The fourth-day payment on November 5 is specifically intended for beneficiaries whose grants fall within the review process.”
SASSA also reminded beneficiaries whose grants are under review to respond to official communication from SASSA and attend review appointments when requested.
