Tatai and Xaba crowned winners of Boxer Super Run

Amogelang Tatai and Glenrose Xaba won the men’s and women’s 5km races respectively.

THE winners of this year’s Boxer Super Run delivered some standout performances in the 5km run with Amogelang Tatai and Glenrose Xaba winning the men’s and women’s races respectively.

Tatai finished in a time of 13:38 while Xaba finished in a time of 15:29 in the race on Sunday (October 18).

For Tatai, winning the 5km race was a proud moment.

“My plan was just to stick with the first group, but from the start, one of the athletes (defending champion Ryan Mphahlele) made a break, so I had to chase him,” admits Tatai. “It was tough as I lost most of my strength during the race, so I couldn’t finish strongly. It was an amazing experience to run here with the senior athletes, who have more experience than me. I’m quite proud of myself for beating them.”

Mphahlele came in second, while Musawenkosi Mnisi finished third.

In the women’s race, Karabo More finished second with Kayla Jacobs ending third.

Xaba complimented her competition, saying they pushed her throughout the race.

“My race was good, and I feel fine. We started very fast, but because the course is challenging, your legs only start to find their rhythm again after you climb the hill. I’m happy with my performance today. The competition was very good and impressive, especially with the younger runners coming through. Karabo More is doing very well and was the one who was going to challenge me, but I was able to put it all together and win the race.”

The Boxer Super Run boasted four dedicated start waves.

While entry to the Elite women and men waves is by invitation only, runners can choose between the Open Wave and Super Social Wave according to the type of race-day experience they are looking for.

Michael Meyer, managing director of Stillwater Sports, praised the outstanding performances of the elite athletes and the enthusiastic support of participants.

“The Boxer Super Run Durban was a fantastic celebration of running, bringing together elite athletes, social runners and families for an unforgettable 5km experience. Congratulations to our elite men’s and women’s winners, Amogelang Tatai and Glenrose Xaba, on their outstanding performances.”
