Will death bring attention to Chartwell Drive speedsters?

EDITOR - Something must be done about speeding along Chartwell Drive.

I have lived in Chartwell Drive for 18 years and I applaud Spike Farrell’s letter to the editor, dated 2 August 2013, in this regard.

Everything that Spike Farrell mentioned is totally correct. Chartwell Drive has become what I call a ‘continuous days’ racing at Kyalami’.

We do not have calming bumps, as result of which motorists in vehicles of all description avoid Marine Drive and Ridge Road and use Chartwell Drive instead.

Ashley Dove responded that Chartwell Drive is not conducive to speed enforcement etc, but that his staff will conduct regular patrols of the location and deal with any motorists observed committing an offence.

This will be welcome and I hope the patrols include speeding during the night time as well.

However, may I ask what Ashley Dove means when he says the road layout is not conducive to speed enforcement? Perhaps when the unthinkable happens, a change of mind will take place.

There are mothers with children or babies in prams, elderly pedestrians and many others using this road to walk, drive or cycle to the village. Enough is enough.

Well done Spike!
