From so-called democracy to idiocracy

"We will go from a so-called democracy to an idiocracy."

I REFER to a letter by Siya Mkhize. My initial reaction after reading the letter was one of shock at his warped sense of entitlement. The tribal chiefs own much more land than the commercial farmers, and yet the latter are singled out and are expected to hand over half their land to their workers.

Julius Caesar invaded Britain twice in 54BC and 55BC. This was at a time before the Anglo-Saxon invaders settled in Britain. Should we apply the reasoning of Mkhize and others calling for land reform in this country to the UK? This would mean that the Italians today have a claim to British farms!

Perhaps the farmers in this country are just not considered indigenous enough to own land. As for your statement about the sharing of wealth – that is not a bad idea.

Perhaps we can begin with the return of our tax money, which went towards upgrading Nkandla. Once the money is returned, it can be used to help the poor in this country.

Let our leaders set prime examples for all to follow. I also hope that your statement about home-owners sharing their wealth with their domestic workers will also apply to those who have struck it rich through BEE and government tenders.

Should Mkhize’s recommendations be put into effect, we will go from a so-called democracy to an idiocracy.
