Editor’s Note: Monkeys continue to cause furor in Durban North

The debate around the issue of monkeys in the north Durban area continues unabated.

While we have closed correspondence on our letters page on the monkey issue, they still keep streaming in. The latest letter came from a Mount Edgecombe resident who disagrees with the sentiment of another letter writer, who said that monkeys breed prolifically.

Views were varied, some people saying we should learn to live with the monkeys, others expressing their views that the monkeys were here long before us, while others feel the primates are nothing more than a nuisance.

We even heard from a mother who told us that a monkey had attacked her child on school grounds.

This argument has been raging in the Northglen News for years, and I am not sure if it will ever be put to rest.

Check out the numerous letters we have received regarding this issue and tell us what you think of the monkeys. How do you feel about the monkey issue?
