WHEN the news of the death of Captain Basil Naidoo reached the Northglen News, hardened reporters were in shock. So was I. Naidoo was killed on Friday when the bullet of the gun of an alleged armed robber pierced  his head. The policeman who had 30 years service under his belt, started off his career at the Phoenix Police Station and had a short stint as a detective .

The avid runner and cop that walked around the Greenwood Park Police Station with a smile on his face had responded to a house robbery in Riverside Road, Durban North when tragedy struck. His death brings to the fore the brutal killing of dedicated police officers, who, more often than not, are at the receiving end of criticism. He will be sorely missed.
