25 areas affected by water outage in and around uMhlanga

A planned shutdown of the Northern Aqueduct will leave parts of Durban North and surrounding areas without water today and into tomorrow.

Residents and businesses in parts of Durban North, Umhlanga, Cornubia and Avoca can expect water interruptions from the early hours of Tuesday (July 14) as eThekwini Municipality carries out planned repairs to the Northern Aqueduct.

The municipality said the 24-hour shutdown began at 01.00 today (Tuesday), July 14, and is expected to conclude at 01.00 on Wednesday, July 15. The shutdown is necessary to repair an 800mm steel pipeline at Hippo Park Avenue.

During this time, the Northern Aqueduct, which is supplied by the uMngeni-uThukela Water Durban Heights Water Treatment Works, will be isolated to allow the repairs to be completed safely.

Once the work has been completed, the system will undergo inspections and pressure testing before being gradually recommissioned. Water supply will be restored progressively as reservoirs refill and the distribution network returns to normal operating conditions.

The following areas in the greater Durban North region are expected to be affected:

  • Umhlanga CBD
  • Umhlanga Ridge
  • Prestondale
  • Ilala Ridge
  • Hawaan Forest
  • Umhlanga Manors
  • Blackburn Village
