Dube TradePort Special Economic Zone (SEZ) continues to play a major role in KZN’s economy, attracting billions in investment, creating jobs and driving export growth.

During the past financial year alone, the SEZ attracted a further R480m in private investment, mainly from existing investors expanding their operations. These investments created 631 permanent and 102 temporary jobs.
CEO Hamish Erskine said continued investment in infrastructure and investor-focused development was helping to attract new business, create jobs and strengthen KZN’s position in global markets.
“Our continued investment in strategic infrastructure and investor-focused development is creating a platform for sustained economic growth and industrial expansion. Dube TradePort remains a powerful catalyst for attracting investment, creating jobs and strengthening KwaZulu-Natal’s position in global markets,” said Erskine.
Investors operating within the SEZ generated about R531m in exports during the past financial year, supplying markets across the Southern African Development Community region and internationally. Dube TradePort said its location, with direct access to King Shaka International Airport, the Port of Durban and major road networks, continues to support export growth.
The organisation invested R109.7m in infrastructure during the 2025/26 financial year, completing projects in Dube TradeZone 2 and Dube AgriZone 2 while expanding industrial warehousing.
Planned projects for the coming financial year include a 4.4MW solar farm, two new industrial warehouses and the planning of a new water reservoir to support future industrial growth.
Dube TradePort also continues to strengthen KZN’s international air connectivity through the KZN Route Development Committee (Durban Direct). The organisation recently refreshed the province’s route development strategy to attract more airlines to King Shaka International Airport.
Recent improvements include Qatar Airways increasing its Durban service to daily flights, Turkish Airlines expanding its Durban-Istanbul route to four flights a week, and Eswatini Air increasing flights between Durban and Manzini to three per week.
Dube TradePort said its growing investment pipeline, infrastructure expansion, export performance and improved air connectivity position it as one of South Africa’s leading Special Economic Zones and a key contributor to KZN’s long-term economic growth.
