Apax holds 8th annual sports day
ROSSMORE – There was a fantastic turnout from the parents and lots of enthusiasm shown by the schoolchildren at their eighth annual sports day.
On 3 March, on a sunny Saturday, the Auckland Park Academy of Excellence (Apax) school held their eighth annual sports day at Vorentoe High School.
After all the athletes gave their best, the Eagles managed to come out at the top, winning the sports day. The Falcons came in second, followed by the Hawks.
The Spirit Trophy was awarded to the Eagles.

The academy’s Fazela Amod said the three houses started off the day with a spectacular, impressive and well-synchronised march past.
Before the commencement of the races, the event was opened with a prayer rendition by Grade 10’s Mogammat Z Strimling and the Code of the Athlete was read out by Salmaa Wadee who is in Grade 12.
Amod also said there was a fantastic turnout from the parents and lots of enthusiasm shown by the schoolchildren.
“Learners tried their best and there were some outstanding performances from all age groups.
“It was lovely to see learners being competitive and determined but also showing great encouragement and sportsmanship towards each other throughout the day.”

The sports day allowed the children to showcase some of their skills like winning the sack race and bean bag throw. The little ones even had a go at an egg and spoon competition.
Apax also welcomed learners from the Islamic Holistic School for Alternative Needs (Ihsaan) as guests.
“Their learners’ courage and determination were certainly an inspiration to all,” Amod said.

Radiyya Wadvalla, the school’s acting principal, thanked the management, staff, the parent-teachers association and their sponsors for making the sports day so successful.
