CAP for Emmarentia and Greenside

EMMARENTIA- CAP community meetings prepare Greenside and Emmarentia residents for launch on 1 December.

Residents of Greenside and Emmarentia can expect a roll out of CAP- Community Active Protection- in their respective neighbourhoods on 1 December.

With the constant threat of break-ins, driveway robberies and car thefts, residents should welcome the new attempt to tighten security but few have turned out for the last two community meetings put on by CAP.

Admittedly, heavy rain thrashed the 13 November meeting at Emmarentia Primary, but with up to 2000 homes in the area, not even twenty residents attended the 10 November meeting at Greenside Primary.

As CEO Mark van Jaarsveld explained, CAP is community-based and not for profit. According to Jaarsveld, CAP is effective because there is a vested interest in its success since people working with the project live in the communities CAP protects.

“Emmarentia and Greenside residents approached us,” he said “We offer a proactive solution where the security company is still accountable to the residents. We believe the owner of any security company must be able to stand in front of the community and explain and what’s happening and why something may not be working.”

One Greenside resident, Cameron Horsfall, welcomes the initiative.

“We had a few incidents of crime at home and I’m just sick of it. I want something that works to prevent- a proactive solution- instead of just reactive after the crime.”

CAP hoped to launch in Greenside and Emmarentia with 1200 houses on board but as the numbers are slowly trickling in the project will launch on 1 Dec.
