AUCKLAND PARK - A University of Johannesburg student dies after being knocked over by a fleeing car.

Student killed in car chase
Two University of Johannesburg (UJ) students were knocked down by a car at the intersection of Kingsway and University Roads in Auckland Park on 22 November in the early morning.
One student died on the spot while the other sustained injuries and has been admitted to a hospital in Johannesburg.
It appears that at the time of the accident, the car that knocked over the students was being chased by the police. The driver of the car is in police custody and the entire matter is currently in the hands of the Police.
The identities of the students involved are currently being verified in order for the University to make urgent contact with and provide support to the next of kin.
“The university community is saddened by the untimely death of a student,” Professor Ihron Rensburg, Vice-Chancellor and principal UJ said. “Our thoughts and prayers go to the student’s family and friends. The university also wishes the student in the hospital a speedy recovery and will provide support to the injured student as well as the family and friends of both the students involved in the accident.”
