Celebrating Jewish survival

NORTHCLIFF - Northcliff Shul's Purim party of Fire and Light takes place this coming week.

The Northcliff Hebrew Congregation will host a festive Purim celebration on 15 March.

The celebration will start at 7pm with a reading of the biblical Scroll of Esther from an authentic hand-written scroll of parchment, which recounts the miracle of Jewish survival in ancient Persia and reminds one of the Almighty’s protection in modern times.

The party will then transport participants to China with lavish kosher Chinese cuisine, Chinese décor and Chinese fancy dress.

Every child in any type of Purim fancy dress will receive a prize. There will even be fortune-hamantashen – a triangular pastry filled with jam or poppy seeds, traditionally eaten on Purim.

A highlight of the evening will be an exciting and daring Fire and Light show which will entertain both children and adults.

The Northcliff Shul, as it is known, is under the leadership of Rabbi Pesach and Rebbetzin Nachana Fishman, and provides a wide range of religious, educational and social services for children and adults of the Jewish community of northwest Johannesburg.

Booking for this event is essential.
