Sparrows and Chicken embark on green campaighn
MELVILLE - A chicken franchise known for its hot menu partners with the Sparrow Foundation School for a heated environmental drive.

Pupils were challenged to take on various green campaigns in the past month. Can-collecting and paper recycling were two of the pupils’ monthly goals, and the victors’ treat was a yummy lunch at Nando’s.
The Grade 4 class weighed in as the winners with a whopping 267kg of used paper collected for recycling. They thoroughly enjoyed their treat at the restaurant on Wednesday, 18 June.
“The heated environment drive is dedicated to instilling a culture of preserving our planet’s limited resources,” Lance Miller, Nando’s Melville store owner said.
He added that it was important to teach responsibility at an early stage and that the school environment, where education was already taking place and where children spend most of their time, was ideal.
The first challenge kicked off a few days after Miss Earth finalist Lutholwethu Zinema for World Environment Day’s visit to the school. Activities included the planting of trees and a vegetable garden.
The 280 pupils managed to collect an impressive 2 236kg of re-usable paper for their Mondi bin – a small act that will help the government reach their goal to reduce the amount of plastic, cans, paper and glass going to landfills.
