Claremont spruced up

CLAREMONT - A soup kitchen, a union and a community worked together to brighten up a suburb in need of some TLC.

Fred and Martie’s Soup Kitchen received a helping hand from Northcliff’s Motor Industry Staff Association union (Misa) to clean up Claremont on 18 July.

Community volunteers, motor industry staff members and the soup kitchen staff split up into teams on Mandela Day to pick up rubbish in the environment around them. The rubbish was then sorted at the Soup Kitchen for recycling, and the team who collected the most debris, was awarded with a pile of warm winter blankets.

Misa sponsored meals for 500 people, treat packets and 90 blankets for the community at this event.

The Paint Emporium on Beyers Naudé Drive also kindly donated paint and materials for maintenance, and the teams spruced up the community.
