The principal of a newly established special needs school in Blairgowrie is delighted, having forsaken the corporate world to help children with multiple disabilities.
Alison Moschetta was prompted by her seven-year-old son Lucca, who suffers from multiple disabilities, and a desire to help other families in similar positions, to open Lucca Support and Care Centre in May this year.
“This is the realisation of a dream,” Moschetta said.
“I was in the corporate world all my life and put up with the politics. I did this because I love him [Lucca] and love kids. These kids are as special as my own. Now it is amazing to help people in the same position as me.”
Children at the school take advantage of speech therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and hydrotherapy in a heated pool.
A medic and sports scientist also assists the children with the development of large motor skills.
A jungle gym, rabbits and sensory room are also features at the school.
“Helping children with special needs is very difficult, but rewarding,” said the school’s physiotherapist Cine Kruger.
“It is great seeing their progress. I also enjoy connecting with them.”
