Fiesta Latina, South Africa’s annual Latin Cultural Festival, exploded in a colourful and joyous celebration of Latin culture at Mark’s Park on 13 September.
Festival goers were treated to exciting and interactive live entertainment, featuring Argentine tango, flamenco, capoeira and even the marinera norteña, the national dance of Peru. The aromas of a tantalizing Spanish paella, Mexican tacos, Peruvian sweets and other traditional foods filled the air, as families enjoyed a day out in the sunshine. There was something fun for everyone. The event drew people from as far afield as Pretoria and Cape Town.
Locals soaked up the unusual cultural experience, while Joburg’s Latinos proudly waved their country flags, and the colours of Brazil, Cuba, Argentina and even Chile added to the already vibrant event. People danced until late into the night, enjoying South American music such as salsa, merengue, reggaeton and samba.
