Celebrating the coming of age

ALBERTSVILLE – Kosie van der Westuysen was praised as an icon and a phenomenal women during her 96th birthday celebration.

In the spirit of International Old Age Day which took place recently – we took the liberty of celebrating Kosie van der Westuysen’s 96th birthday celebration on 17 October.

She has been praised as a role model by her son Johann Bauot van der Westuysen.

“She is an icon and a phenomenal women,” he said.

“During her time as a teacher, she has mentored and taught a lot of people… she has so much to offer and a lot of skills to transfer.”

Ms Kosie taught Grade 1 pupils for more than 40 years at Weltevreden Park Primary School and also Laerskool Louw Geldenhuys in Linden.

During her time as a teacher, she was considered a Jill of all trades. She taught piano lessons and also promoted sportsmanship at schools and churches.

“I am battling with prostate cancer, however today is not about me, it is about my icon, she has always ensured that everyone’s needs are catered for, ” her son added.

Boitumelo Maboe from retirement village Huis Hoëveld, where Ms Kosie has been living for seven years, said, “Kosie is very strong for her age, I salute her.”
