Building relationships through sports
AUCKLAND PARK – Auckland Park Academy of Excellence was alive with sportsmanship during their annual sports day on 21 February.
Auckland Park Academy of Excellence came alive during their fifth annual sports day on 21 February at the Vorentoe High School sports ground.
Pupils from Grade 1 to grade 10 braved the cold weather and revealed their spirit of competitiveness during flat races and various novelty races.

The school also invited pupils from Ihsan Special Needs Madressa to join in the sports fun.
Ihsan is an Islamic holistic school for both adults and children with special needs, based in Homestead Park.

“This is an all-inclusive day and it is a privilege to have our special kids joining us. We are really grateful,” said head principal of the Auckland Park Academy of Excellence Nadia Motara.
Motara stated that the day was dedicated on building relationships.
“The sports day is to give kids an opportunity to get together – one of the focuses is to build strong home school relationships,” she said.
She added, “It is also an opportunity for our pupils, parents and us teachers to get together.”
Motara said, “Results do not matter to us because we believe that every child here is gifted in their own way.”

Meanwhile, parents also joined in the fun and showed their athletic prowess in the tug-of-war and shuttle relay races.
