Schools protest against abuse

PARKTOWN – The Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg and McAuley House are firmly against woman and child abuse.

The Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg (DSJ) recently participated in a social campaign against woman and child abuse.

The campaign was called Kwanele-Kwanele (enough is enough).

Kwanele-Kwanele aimed to raise awareness and fight against women and child abuse. The campaign was initially started by McAuley House in Parktown. The DSJ recently joined their neighbouring school in their protest campaign.

The protest was held at 7am and ran for 30 minutes. Pupils from both schools lined Napier Road in Parktown to support the cause and take a stand. As part of the protest, pupils carried placards that encouraged the passing traffic to hoot in support.

DSJ organiser of the protest Angela Schäfers was very proud of the opportunity to have the school involved in this noble cause.

“We have supported McAuley House’s initiative for a couple of years now. Raising awareness of such a social issue is vital in South Africa. The support from within our school community has been very positive. We would like to thank the general public for their support during the morning and hopefully we have made a difference in some way,” she said.

The purpose of Kwanele-Kwanele is to educate boys, girls, parents, teachers and communities about the devastating extent and impact of women and child abuse in society.
