The youth is on a mission

AUCKLAND PARK — Young people from across the globe initiate dialogues on leadership and entrepreneurship.

The AIESEC South Africa National Leadership Development Summit 2015 officially commenced on 29 June and will end on 3 July. This is an annual mid-year conference hosted by students within 10 local tertiary institutions.

The event is hosted by AIESEC UJ to bring together students from AIESEC SA and international students, to discuss leadership ventures through global exchange within 128 countries.

“The summit aims to inspire and motivate the youth to tap into their leadership potential through cross-cultural exchange and that each individual has the power to make a change. Hence the summit theme being Singaba amaQhawe namaQhawekazi (We can be heroes and heroines) through reconciliation, co-operation and leadership,” said the group’s vice president of marketing and communications, Nomkhosi Khumalo.

Karabo Nyanga, the organising committee president said that this year’s summit will be playing an important role in the mentoring of youth innovation, through its Youth to Business Forum.

The Youth to Business Forum (Y2B), will focus on youth leadership and entrepreneurship.

The summit will be dedicated to inspiring entrepreneurship as a venture, to inspire the youth to look into their own success. The Y2B Forum will boast various industry personalities such as Anele Ndlovu and Sanele Makinane who will explore the topic with nuances of personal experiences.

Khumalo said the overall summit aims to be a platform where students can come together, form a network and discover their own leadership potential.

“This gives each individual power to make a change by participating in the global exchange programmes we offer. This will cultivate leaders, who have an understanding of cross-cultural realities and becoming tolerant of others in the workplace and community.”
