UPDATE: Gun manufacturers face law

NEWLANDS – New evidence against gun manufacturers.

The Hawks found new evidence against two men accused of manufacturing and selling guns in Westdene and Sophiatown.

Lieutenant Robert Netshiunda of Hawks said they could not continue with the court case on 17 September.

“We had to conduct investigations before taking them to court, which led to the new information we have just found. As a result, they are expected to appeared in the Newlands Magistrates’ Court on 18 September,” explained Netshiunda.

The major gun and drug bust took place on 16 September.

The Hawks confiscated guns, ammunition, drugs and arrested the men, aged 30 and 64, after receiving a tip-off.

Lt Netshiunda said they raided a house at 3rd Avenue during one of their operations where 12 completed pipe guns, 39 live rounds of a shotgun, 78 live rounds of a .38 revolver, 222 live rounds of a handgun as well as one .38 revolver and one handgun were found.

He said they also found 4.559kg of dagga.

In another house on 5th Avenue, the Hawks’ members confiscated 138 live rounds of a .38 revolver, 24 live rounds of a shotgun, eight completed pipe guns and one live round of a handgun.

The suspects allegedly sold each pipe gun together with 10 live rounds of a shotgun for R650.
