Robbers caught on camera in Westdene
WESTDENE - Students are victims of robbery.
Robbers in a black Polo VW were caught on camera robbing a UJ student along 55 Aberdeen Street on 26 September.
According to Frikkie Botes of the Westdene Johannesburg Crow, after committing the robbery, the men drove away towards Tokio Street, skipped red robots towards Engen Garage with two cars chasing after them.
Botes said the car slipped down Winchester and turned into Maldone Cul de Sac where the two allegedly jumped out of the car trying to flee through a fence nearby.
He said one man was arrested by the Sophiatown Police while his friend managed to escape.
A tow truck was called to tow the car to Sophiatown Police Station.
Botes said crime picked up in Westdene since the beginning of September.
“It is sad that the students are targeted by these thugs every day. These people know students carry valuable items like cellphones, laptops and tablets,” said Botes.
The Sophiatown Police spokesperson Warrant Officer TJ de Bruyn confirmed the case.
WO De Bruyn said, “One of the two men has been arrested.”
