GALLERY: Cupcakes 4 Kids with Cancer raises more than a million

JOBURG – Cupcakes 4 Kids with Cancer raises R1 501 240 from different shopping malls across South Africa.

Cupcakes 4 Kids with Cancer hosted South Africa’s fourth National Cupcake Day and raised R1 501 240 at 70 different shopping malls across South Africa for children with cancer.

One of the shopping malls that were involved in this fundraising drive was Cresta Shopping Centre .

Cupcakes 4 Kids with Cancer coordinator Lisa Blignaut said a total of 3 500 cupcakes were donated to Cresta Shopping Centre and every last one was sold.

“At Cresta alone we raised R35 000,” said Blignaut.

Cupcakes were also sold at Clearwater Mall, Fourways Mall, Cradlestone Mall, Fontainebleau Village Shopping Centre and Key West Shopping Centre.

Cupcakes 4 Kids with Cancer raise awareness about the early warning signs of childhood cancer and gives financial support to parents.

Founder Sandy Cipriano of this NGO, said the funds raised will go toward paying for school fees, travelling costs, medical treatments and other day-to-day expenses of children battling with cancer.

“We also conduct hospital visits and spoil the patients and staff with cupcakes. We have been able to assist more than 350 children since inception,” said Cipriano.

Cupcakes 4 Kids with Cancer has designed an infographic to help concerned parents to identify warning symptoms and the best course of action if cancer is suspected.

The pamphlet is available in six of the national languages and can be printed from the website.
