The Northcliff Tower has undergone extensive repairs in order to replace a pump that burnt down.
Repairs on the pump were completed during the evening on 21 April. Ward 88 Councillor Pat Richards said that the repairs were a big engineering job, hence, the amount of time it took.
“The motor was replaced last night, was tested to make sure it works and then the water needed to be pumped. By 20.30pm all the residents had water and so far we have not received any complaints,” said Richards.
Affected areas included Northcliff and its extensions, Greymont, Waterval Estate Ext 5 and Valeriedene. At the time, Richards said that the new pumps that were installed failed to work and needed to be replaced. She added that residents were informed at the time about what was happening and they also had access to water tanks.
Johannesburg Water spokesperson Eleanor Mavimbela confirmed previously that the second replacement motor that was installed on 19 April, tripped the next day and failed to continue pumping water.
“It is good to know that we have a new pump that weighs over a ton. I am certain that it will work much better and that it will definitely improve the lives of residents. I would like to thank all residents for doing their best while coping without water,” concluded Richards.
