Famous JOY dogs entertain Eventide residents
EMMARENTIA – Famous JOY dogs jump through hoops to please the elderly and disabled
The famous JOY dogs, Jazmine, Oscar, and Yola, brought such joy to the hearts of the residents of the Emmarentia Eventide Salvation Army Home when they celebrated Mandela Month with them in July.
The three old English sheepdogs are also well-known for the work they do for a local paint company.
Residents were treated to a full show, including interesting facts about the breed, a display of products made from spun dog hair and photos of the dogs at their best, said Sue Green the owner of the dogs.
Jasmine, Oscar, and Yola went out of their way to entertain the residents under the supervision of Sue and her two assistants Estelle Hulsman and Megan von Maltitz.
“When it was time for the dogs to strut their stuff. Yola showed off her new trick of jumping through hoops over Jazmine and Oscar and also of carrying her own basket together with Oscar,” said Green.
“Of course, they also showed everyone how they can read and bark their ages. Everyone posed with the dogs and got to touch them – the best therapy of all.”
Copies of the book Life with Oscar, authored by Green, were given to the home.
Green and her team love to visit homes for the aged and disabled and entertain them with a 45-minute show with the dogs doing their tricks.
“We also have a responsible pet ownership programme targeting schools and pre-schools, as well as company wellness visits,” explained Green.
