Windsor’s night of robberies

WINDSOR – Three businesses suffer losses.

Windsor East and West as well as Northcliff businesses were robbed and burgled on the evening of 4 August and the early morning of 5 August.

On 4 August at 9 pm, a buy-and-braai shop on Dukes and Princesses Avenue in Windsor East was robbed by two unknown men. They entered the shop and ordered the staff to stay behind the counter.

“There were about six people in the shop and the manager was slapped around by the suspects,” said Linden Police spokesperson, Captain Alex Vermaak. The store was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money and the people in the store were robbed of their cellphones.

“As the suspects exited the store, they fired shots into the air before they got away on foot,” said Vermaak. The suspects are believed to be to between 25 and 30 years old. Fortunately, no one was injured.

On 5 August at 4.45am, the Caltex garage on Beatrice Street and Dukes Avenue in Windsor East was also robbed. The doors to the garage were closed when two men came in to buy oil through the glass window.

According to Vermaak, the men pointed a gun at a female employee and demanded that she open the door. The suspects then gained entry and demanded all the money from the till.

The other employees at the garage did not see anything as they were trying to keep warm inside the garage. The suspects got away with an undisclosed amount of money and left the woman unharmed.

First National Bank at the Northcliff Square was also broken into at 3am on 5 August . “The alarm went off at and that is when the manager was called,” said Vermaak. No money was stolen, but the suspects managed to get away with two computers and two flat screen TVs.
