Westpark Cemetery warning

MONTGOMERY PARK – Visitors to Westpark Cemetery are asked to be on high alert when entering the premises.

 

Cases of robberies at Westpark Cemetery are on the rise and visitors to the cemetery are warned to be vigilant.

Spokesperson for Sophiatown Police Station, Warrant Officer TJ de Bruyn said there have been several reports of robberies reported at the station. “We, therefore, urge the public to be vigilant when visiting the graves of loved ones.”

De Bruyn went on to caution people not to go alone and to report any suspicious activity immediately.

The police do regular patrols inside the cemetery, however, the latest reported incidents have raised concern for the safety of the public. “When you do see suspicious activity, please phone 10111 immediately.” He added that they are now investigating the reported cases and are treating them with the utmost urgency.
