Two critically injured in shocking Melville crash

MELVILLE – A serious car collision has left two people in a critical condition.

Two people critically injured after five cars collided.

EMER-G-MED paramedics and other services were dispatched to reports of a serious collision in Melville  on the corner of Main and 8th on 12 November.

Max Cohen, EMER-G-MED spokesperson said that on arrival paramedics found that two people had been critically injured and were entrapped within the wreckage of their vehicle, after a car allegedly swerved into oncoming traffic and collided with them head-on. “The two vehicles then spun around and collided with three other cars and a taxi.

He explained that paramedics immediately began treating the critically injured patients and provided advanced life support care, while the City of Johannesburg Fire Department used the “jaws of life” and other rescue tools to cut them free from the vehicle.

“Once both patients, who had both sustained severe polytrauma and multiple fractures, were extricated, they were further stabilised – before being transported by EMER-G-MED to a nearby Level 1 Trauma Hospital, for further specialist care.”

The remaining 16 people, who had also been involved, were fortunate to escape uninjured.

JMPD was on the scene to investigate the exact events leading up to the collision.
