New church in Melville will celebrate life
MELVILLE – New church opens it doors to the public on 27 November...
Melville, one of Johannesburg’s oldest suburbs, will open its doors to a brand-new church this week and all are welcome.
Ken McArthur, chairman of the church’s organising committee, said the church situated on the corner of 5th Avenue and 6th Street in Melville will officially have its first service for the Community in Christ on 27 November.
Professor Hansie Wolmarans of Rossmore will conduct a series of services to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
“Wolmarans is regarded by many as one of South Africa’s foremost preachers and modern theologians,” said McArthur.
The Christmas service, starting at 9am, will also give parents the opportunity to have their children baptised.
“Some people feel that nobody cares or are hurt by others due to the way they look or how they were created. This makes it difficult to live life to its fullest. So, at these services, life will be celebrated,” said McArthur.
He added that the Community in Christ is being organised by a group of open-minded people who are ready to help where it is needed. “[We] all exhibit a history of and a deep commitment to reaching out to the downtrodden and marginalised. Some refer to themselves as ‘recovering Christians’. Together they want to rediscover Christianity and ‘recover’ its relevance into our contemporary context.”
