Painting up a storm in 67 minutes
AUCKLAND PARK – Volunteers spend their 67 minutes brightening up Woodside Sanctuary
Every year on Mandela Day, people offer their time to make a significant difference in society.
Woodside Sanctuary had the pleasure of having Rotary Club of Johannesburg New Dawn volunteers brighten up their new day care centre.

The club’s Carol Stier said Rotary was aware of the items on the home’s wish list and decided to be more hands on and painted the centre instead of donating money. The rotary hosts a number of fundraising initiatives for the home and other organisations.
“People receive so much that it’s only fair to give back to the community, the needy and to do good deeds. The Rotary is about service above self; this is what we are all about,” said Stier.

Rotary members and volunteers got their hands dirty and put their painting skills to the test. Youngsters who are still on school holidays also offered their help for Mandela Day.
Club member Debbie Vries said she believed it was important for people to participate in Mandela Day and give back to worthy causes.
“I’m not really a good painter but I’m learning as I go along and having fun,” she said.

Woodside chairman Mabuya Kasango said, “We decided to start a day care centre for young people with severe mental challenges who cannot afford to be full-time residents at Woodside. Rotary club members are here today to paint the day cares classroom before it’s officially opened.
“The excitement and enthusiasm shown by the volunteers is a clear indication that that everything will turn out great. I would like to thank everyone who participated in making the project possible.”
