WESTDENE – Police are aware of the incident but have yet to comment on the matter.

The robbery is believed to have taken place earlier yesterday (22 October) on Tokio Road, Westdene.

The video was posted by the Sophiatown Neighbourhood Watch and in the description, it was said that R26 000 was taken from the tuk-tuk. It is unclear whether the victim is a tuk-tuk driver or a passenger.

In the video, two men get out of a vehicle – said to be a Toyota Etios – parked in front of the stationary tuk-tuk and casually walk towards it.

One of the men then sticks his head into the vehicle and pulls out a bag presumably with the R26 000 in it. The man then puts the bag in the back seat of his car before driving off with his accomplice.

Although the incident was called an armed robbery as one shot was fired, it is unclear from the footage whether that was the case.

Northcliff Melville Times has since spoken to Warrant Officer TJ de Bruyn, spokesperson for the Sophiatown Police Station who said he was aware of the video but was not in a position to give details about the incident at the time.

This is a developing story and details will be published as more information becomes available.
