Local police urge the public to partner with them to fight the crime surge as the Covid-19 lockdown reaches 100 days. Brixton Police Station are calling on all residents, business, organisations and the general public to stand with them in the fight against crime. The police are asking the people within their policing precinct to come forward with any information on crimes taking place. Spokesperson for the station, Jeanette Backhoff said, “Crimes are better solved by the involvement and participation of the victim and witness, therefore we urge the public to come forward with any information pertaining to cases of their knowledge.” Police confirmed to the public that information can be given to them anonymously and any information relating to any case would be viewed as important. “The information can be shared with the police without giving away one’s identity. Tips and extra information helps in solving, crimes, giving the investigator enough to build a strong case for court and, in turn, the prosecutor can present with the case with confidence.” She added that a little deed such as reporting a suspicious car or persons spotted can help prevent crime. The police also encouraged the public to immediately report any active criminal activity they may see or experience. Backhoff concluded, “To serve the community better, means we need to work in solidarity in crime prevention and investigation.” The station can be reached via e-mail or landline or using the crime stop number on 08600 10111.” Details: Brixton Police Station telephone 011 837 4427; fax 011 830 2073; email brixton.sc@saps.gov.za
