Market Street Park is falling prey to transgressors
FAIRLAND – Help rejuvenate the park as an effort to beautify your precious neighbourhood.
Users of the Market Street Park are in clear violation of not only Level 3 regulations but standard by-laws too.
Ward 98 councillor Beverley Weweje explained these regulations clearly stated that public parks like this one be closed for use. However, according to her, there has been a complete disregard to these regulations and users have even stepped up their efforts to break not only these regulations but by-laws as well.

Weweje said between the period of 24 June to 4 July, she conducted random oversight visits and reported the Market Street transgressions to JMPD who promptly responded. There are transgressions that relate to fires in the park, which would take place during the day, drinking in the park, taxis parking on the verges, taxis parking and driving in the parks, trading in the park, to name a few.
“My request is that residents please continue to log by-law transgressions with JMPD and send me the reference numbers,” she said. Adding having taken the lawlessness to many levels within the entity, she refuses to accept that the community needs to accept the status quo. “I will continue pursuing the various avenues open to me in council. I also would once again, like to put out a request to all residents interested in getting involved in the beautification and rejuvenation of the park to contact me, in order for us to establish a Market Street Park working committee.”
