Key issues raised included noise disturbances from Nova Bar, complaints about alcohol consumption, parking issues in front of residential properties, and littering, such as bottles being thrown into yards.

Additionally, concerns were expressed about Silver Pine, where revving engines have turned the road into what some residents described as a racetrack.

Mabongeni Shabangu, the director of compliance and enforcement for the Gauteng Liquor Board (GLB), urged residents to build strong cases and collaborate to enhance the community’s quality of life.

He emphasised the importance of collective action in addressing these disturbances effectively. Following the liquor board discussion, Colonel Shaid Abdool, the station commander, provided an overview of crime statistics in the precinct.

He broke down crime rates by sector, giving residents a clearer understanding of safety in their area. Abdool highlighted the significant impact of alcohol on crime, noting increases in drunk driving arrests and domestic violence cases linked to alcohol consumption.

He also warned residents about the rise in fraud cases and advised them to stay vigilant, particularly regarding information circulated by the CPF.

Abdool offered practical safety tips, urging residents to park their vehicles behind gates when possible, ensure their cars are locked, and avoid leaving valuables in plain sight. He also stressed the importance of securing homes with alarms.

Concerns were raised about local parks, where residents were reminded to be mindful of what they place on the pavement. The accumulation of old furniture and haphazard donations has attracted more individuals living rough, impacting the neighborhood’s cleanliness and safety.

During the meeting, Abdool introduced the CPF and station management team, announcing that the Linden CPF has been nominated as a finalist for the CPF of the Year award for Gauteng. The winner will be revealed on October 18.

In closing, attendees were encouraged to take care of one another and to join the community network, reinforcing the message that a united community can foster a safer and more pleasant living environment.
