Baboon finally caught in Northcliff

The baboon has been safely captured thanks to the efforts of residents and wildlife rescue teams.

The male baboon, which has been on the loose for eight days in Northcliff, was finally caught in the morning of June 27.
Brendan Murray from Owl Rescue said that they have been monitoring the baboon for the past three months, which came from the Magaliesberg area before making its way to Northcliff.

Murray added that the baboon had been searching for a new troop. He said Owl Rescue had set a trap to capture the baboon, while Community Led Animal Welfare (CLAW) had set two traps. “Our goal was to catch him safely and minimise any disturbances.”
In the end, the animal was captured by a trap set up in one of the residents homes.
Bhaai Cassim, the secretary for the Johannesburg Sub-District Police Board, confirmed that CLAW was on its way to collect the animal, which will first undergo a health check before being transported to a remote location for release back into the wild.
Cassim thanked everyone involved in the monitoring and capture of the baboon safely.
